Buzz was a member of the Shawnee Ski Patrol.
We learned he was diagnosed with cancer five weeks ago and his Chemo therapy was not successful.
Capt. William W. (Buz) Radican, USN (ret)
1944-2023
Capt. William Radican was many things. His friends, family, and fellow Naval Aviators just called him “Buz.”
He was born on October 10, 1944, in Wake Village, Texas. He died on June 20, 2023, in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. In his youth he was active in the Boy Scouts of America achieving the Rank of Eagle Scout in 1961.
He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1966 with a degree in Nautical Science and received a direct commission into the US Navy as an Ensign, and was accepted into the Naval Flight Program.
Upon earning his wings as a Naval Aviator, he flew A-6 Intruders off the deck of USS Constellation during the Vietnam War. He flew 75 missions over North Vietnam and earned numerous citations. Later in his career he commanded an A-6 Squadron embarked on USS Midway, homeported in Yokosuka, Japan. He retired from the Navy in 1992 after serving his last assignment ashore as Chief of Staff, Naval Base Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
After retiring from the Navy, Buz started a second career in the Merchant Marine retiring in 2012 as a Ship Captain for the Norwegian Cruise Lines. Buz was an avid hiker, hiking most of the Appalachian Trail including travelling to Spain several times to hike the 800-mile Camino de Santiago. He was also an avid skier serving as a member of the Shawnee Mt. Ski Patrol in the Pocono Mountains.
Buz was a member of the Elks, joining because of their support for veterans and the Boy Scouts. He represented the Elks at Eagle Scout Courts of Honor awarding congratulatory citations to the recipients.
